Touring trip Lyngen 2019

When spring approaches the Austrian Alps we head towards the Norwegian LYNGEN ALPS. The mountains of the Lyngen Alps seem to raise out of the water of the Norwegian sea. This means that we can enjoy the beauty of the Norwegian nature combined with unique ski runs including a view over the beaches and the sea.

We spend our days and after-skiing-evenings on a cruiser about 350 km north of the polar circle. Our days are characterised by exceptional ski tours, freshly caught fish, sighting reindeer and the easy-going Norwegian lifestyle. Our skimo tours are characterised by spectacular views over the fjords and if we’re lucky we might get sight of some reindeer. In order to react to the changing weather conditions in the Lyngen Alps, we start all our tours from the cruiser. This guarantees optimal flexibility.

The day for arrivals and departures is SUNDAY. You have to book your flight to TROMSO yourself, but we’ll pick you up at Tromso airport and bring you back to the airport on Sunday. Most of the flights to Tromso go via OSLO. As there is no toll in Tromso, make sure to have enough extra time in Oslo. We recommend planning with 2 hours extra time in Oslo for the toll procedure. You should arrive and depart in Tromso between 12 and 5 pm. We can only guarantee for your transfer from and to the airport if your flight is in this timeframe.

INSURANCE: You need an accident insurance and an insurance that covers salvage from free skiing areas

ASCENT:

In order to enjoy our daily ski tours to the fullest you should be able to do 1200 meters of altitude per day. In Lyngen our daily tours will be from 800-1200 meters of altitude per day, always depending on the weather and the group. The ascents in Lyngen are rather flat and easy to manage, but we might have to do some short climbs in order to reach the actual summit of some mountains. If you’re interested in how to prepare and train for the ascent (also when living in a city), feel free to contact us- we’ll help you with some tips for your training. Make sure to be familiar with your equipment- we might have to change the skins more than once a day.

DESCENT:

Of course, we’re all longing for long soulrides in fresh powder enjoying the best conditions, but you have to be aware the we might have to deal with many different types and conditions of snow. You should be able to handle not only perfect powder but also corn snow and crusted snow. Traversing an icy mountainside should not be a big deal for you and you should be able to ski the crux passages which are about 40°steep. Whenever possible we start our tours directly from the cruiser.

CRUISER:

During our trip, we sleep and live on a cruiser in the fjords of Norway. The captain and our cook are with us making sure that we always get enough to eat. No matter whether we’re skiing or fishing we always try to make the best of our time. If you enjoy eating freshly caught fish, you’ll be a lucky guy during your Lyngen stay. You can prepare your packed lunch using whatever you find on the breakfast buffet.
